| A series of menu choices appears under Site Records. | |
Search: This menu selection will allow you to enter search criteria by text mode as noted to the right. You can use combinations of different field information to retrieve a listing of site records. For example, you may wish to select a county and add an owner name to your search criteria (e.g. City), or you may wish to filter to a township, range and section combination.
The wnumber entry field at the bottom of this menu screen will automatically open a separate window for each wnumber you enter and submit. |

County: This menu selection is the more dynamic of the menu options. Upon selection of this menu choice a bitmap of the State of Iowa will appear and allow you to select the county of your choice by simply clicking on the county. The county name will appear as you move your mouse over the county. |

Upon selection of the county a new frameset will appear that has a series of menu choices in the table of contents area as noted to the left. The first map that will appear is a base map of the county with major highways, rivers, and municipalities displayed. Upon clicking one of the menu choices the following will occur: County
will return to the original state bitmap search page and allow you to
select a new county. |
The listing returned from any of the selection criteria noted above will display the wnumber, name owner, location (i.e. township, range, section, quarter section), depth of well, and the site type (e.g. drilled hole, outcrop, quarry, etc.). The wnumber listing is hot linked to open an individual site record window for that specific site. Only IE4.x or better browsers may have multiple windows of several sites active at once to compare site specific information. Site specific information may consist of geologic, hydrologic, well construction information, or graphic logs. Site types highlighted in red or denoted by an * have a graphic log (e.g. strip log, core log, measured section, etc.) available for viewing from the site record window. You can also reorder the table view by clicking on wnumber, name owner, location, or depth on the table header. Default sort order is by location. |
Oil: This menu selection will return a listing of all the oil test sites in Iowa. The wnumbers are hot linked and operate as noted above opening an individual site record window for each oil test site. At the top of the listing are hot links which will 1.) display a bitmap of the distribution of the oil tests across Iowa, and 2.) access to the Oil, Gas, and Metallic Mineral Regulatory Information web page on the IGS web site. |
The additional menu choices are not currently hot linked, but are anticipated links to IGS cores on file, mine data, quarry information, and an outcrop locality register. |
Stratigraphic column: This returns the current stratigraphic column for the State of Iowa. No search ability currently exists for searching site records by geologic unit, however, this is anticipated in the near future. |
ArcIms: Is an interactive map design program that will allow you to zoom in at various levels and plot the site points (which may consist of wells, quarry sections, road cut sections, etc.), cities, roads, rivers, townships, ranges, and sections. The well points are hyperlinked if selected as the active layer and will open a site record window for the selected point. |
Submit comments: This area allows you to submit comments/questions via email to the Geosam administrator. |

Iowa Geographic Image Map Server: This site was developed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in cooperation with Iowa State University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The purpose of this site is to evaluate methods of distributing geographically referenced digital data via the world wide web for use in Geographic Information Systems and other applications. The site utilizes server technology developed at MIT that allows the user to browse large datasets by generating seamless image mosaics that match the desired resolution and viewport size. The images provided on this site are derived from various USGS datasets including Digital Orthophoto Quads, Digital Raster Graphics, Digital Elevation Model, and Landsat imagery. The link provided points to the 1:24,000-scale USGS Topographic Maps on their website. |
